Choral Compline- September 8 at 9 pm!
The Canterbury Choir will present a Solemn Choral Compline on Sunday, September 8 at 9 pm. Choral Compline is a service of Night Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer. The first Book of Common Prayer (1549), provided a version of evensong that combined the traditional offices of vespers and compline. The source used by Archbishop Thomas Cranmer was the Latin rite developed at Salisbury Cathedral, sometimes called the Sarum rite, and included in the Sarum missal.
In choral compline, all of the service is sung or chanted by the officiant and choir. Hymns are included for congregational participation.
On the second Sunday of each month, our Canterbury Choir will offer either Compline (9 pm), or Evensong (4 pm).
